WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the release of the DNC’s 2024 “After Action” report and DNC Chair Ken Martin’s message to supporters, Kelly Dietrich, the Founder & CEO of the National Democratic Training Committee – the largest organization in the country solely focused on training Democrats to run for office, staff campaigns and become party leaders – released the following statement:

“There is no other way to spin it, this is a failure by the DNC.

I’m sick and tired of hearing the same thing cycle after cycle from the Democratic National Committee and then see no real action. The truth is, the DNC has been diagnosing the same problems for years without fixing them. The DNC should be focused on electing the president and building a war chest – they were never designed to build and maintain a permanent, year-round infrastructure. It is far past time to expect the DNC, the same institution that has failed to build long term infrastructure, to suddenly fix it.

It is clear that this work is too long term, too fundamental, and too important to live inside the Democratic Party Headquarters. What we need is a dedicated outside operation that is clear eyed and solely focused on building long term infrastructure that helps every democrat everywhere not subject to the winds of frequently changing party leadership and priorities. This work shouldn’t be an after thought or a way to please donors – we need real investment now.

While the DNC has identified correctly what the problems are, they incorrectly believe the institution is the solution to them. The DNC should partner and uplift the people who are doing the work, like the National Democratic Training Committee, to build a sustainable staff pipeline, support downballot races, and create a real 50-state strategy. This is the way to do it smarter, faster, cheaper, and at scale.”
