Documenting Online Harassment and Abuse Template

Description

In our increasingly polarized society, politicians on all levels of the ballot can face online threats and harassment. Trying to keep track of them all without an organized system guarantees that a threat slips through the cracks, leaving your candidate and campaign vulnerable. This documentation template gives your campaign one place to log every incident as it happens, so you have a clear, organized record of your campaign’s threat history.

This spreadsheet, paired with our Guide to Documenting Online Harassment and Abuse, will guide you through the documentation and tracking process should your campaign face online harassment and abuse. Once implemented, you’ll have a record that actually holds up if you need to report an attack to a platform, escalate it to law enforcement, or brief your own campaign leadership.

Included are:

  • Fields to log the date, time, and description of each incident

  • A column for the type of communication, whether it's email, phone, text, or social media

  • Space to link a screenshot, the original post, or other supporting documentation
